The Study Edition of The Catholic Bible: A Review

This Study Edition of The Catholic Bible is absolutely wonderful.  This bible is a New American Bible with study and reading guides.  It contains maps, reading guides and general background information.  There are chapter introductions and foot notes.  The numerous reading guides are full of details and include back story that will give the reader an inside look to what is the many layers of each chapter.  The introductions to each book of the bible clearly indicate which books are meant to be literary stories and which are intended as historical.  As Catholics we understand that some stories of the bible are simply that; stories to learn from, such as Jonah and The Whale.  The scripture uses an authentic translation and the languange in the study sections of this book is clear.  The footnotes not only clarify words that are no longer used (units of measurement, certain woods, customs, etc) but also direct the reader to other readings of scripture that will enhance the understanding of that particular reading.  This version never dissapoints with detail.  The reading guides and footnotes included in this study guide offer great insight to make the reading experience a full one.  I recommend this Catholic Bible Study Edition to newcomers and those who are familiar with scripture.  Both my husband and myself have a copy of this bible and find use for it all the time. We have used it at our own church, on occasion in addition to taking it with us to other places of worship when visiting family and friends.  This edition is useful as both a study guide and a standard use Bible. It makes a great item for personal use, but also is an excellent gift for any Catholic.
