Lenten Update: Day 2

Why wasn't there a day one? I was out sick from work, and wanted to catch up on some sleep.

Which was a bummer being sick on Ash Wednesday. I still made it to Mass, operating on half-speed (I had a horrible sore throat and was really tired). I didn't take the blood, because who wants to drink after someone with a bad throat? And also, I didn't get to go to work with ashes on my head. Yes I know that you don't get ashes to show them off, but it's fun answering questions about ashes to sometimes puzzled co-workers.

My Lenten observance this year was no food or drink during daylight hours. Which forces me to alter my schedule significantly. For instance, the night before I make sure to load up on water and some kind of grain. Last night it was a cup and a half of rice, two eggs, and 32 ounces of water. This morning, I got up at 6:25, 30 minutes before sunrise, and ate five pancakes, a bowl of Cheerios, and another large glass of water.

And you know what? The waking up early has been nice the last two days. I feel like I'm able to get more stuff accomplished around the house as opposed to those mornings when I'd wake up with only two hours until I had to leave for work. I know that it's good practice for baby Lucy, as she'll be awake much earlier than Allicia and I are used to being up.

Today will be the real challenge: Going through work without food or drink will be much more difficult than doing it while at home.

Pray for me!
